The Challenges of Teamwork

Effective teams that continue to work towards a unified objective are the foundation of every successful company. Everyone in the team must be able to create a culture of trust and positive energy. Also, the different teams should aspire to keep operations running smoothly.

Any organization, or undertaking for that matter, has several kinds of teams. These teams, while coming from different the departments in the company, are in-charge of diverse responsibilities. A team may choose to behave in a number of ways, but all teams work towards a common objective. There are challenges in keeping the team together and these include keeping morale, trust, communication lines, good leadership and responsible membership at high levels .

The People Who Compose the Team

Teamwork is not gathering people together and telling them what to and what not to do. In fact, the essence of the construct is the coming together of different personas and making them work towards a common goal. The people in the team achieve unity after exercises of forming, storming, norming, and performing.

Among the by-products of efficient team development programs are productive teams that can also resolve operational and administrative concerns on time.

For any team to achieve its objective, its members should, most importantly, set aside their personal differences and interests. There is also a feeling of ownership and accountability over the project that they are to undertake.

A vivid perspective of the objectives, commitment to the goals and an atmosphere of trust characterize any team, may it be a college sports team or a corporate team. Above all, it should also have a capable leader who has full empowerment from top management.

The People Behind Any Effective Team

If the success of an organization is largely influenced by the quality of its leaders, the level of teamwork displayed by a team is influenced by the efforts of the people who compose it. Hence, any team who wished to be successful should encourage members to be active in the planning stage and be open to ideas and positive feedback.

There are specific qualifications for responsible team members. Everyone should genuinely care for others, support and trust team members and share liability problems rather than blaming them for certain failures.

Certain characteristics make effective team leaders stand out from the mediocre ones. In summary, they should be able to effectively execute a plan through direction setting and team management, are conscious of the welfare of the team, have no favorites, are ready to work harder and set good examples for others.

Keeping Team Performance Optimum

The first phase to creating a high impact team is skill levels assessment. This process results to the identification of training needs. Coaching, communication skills and team spirit activities are other tools essential in creating an effective team.

It’s essential for all members to be conscious of their respective roles in the team. After all, the achievement of team goals is highly dependent on the level of appreciation members have regarding their responsibilities to the team.
