If you are a leader or desire to be a leader, there will be times in your life that define you as such. Leaders are people who dare to take on the challenges and tasks that most people never will. That’s why people will be willing to follow you. They will see in you a courage and boldness that they desire to follow. At times though, you will not feel courageous or bold. These are the times where true leaders emerge.
Let me explain by quoting Theodore Roosevelt. He once said, ‘Whenever you are asked if you can do a job, tell ’em, ‘Certainly I can!’ Then get busy and find out how to do it.’ This one key will help you become very successful as a leader.
There will be many times in your life as a leader when you will not know how to do something. But as a leader you will have people looking up to you because they believe you can do it. These are the times where you just have to say to yourself, ‘Ok, here we go. I don’t have a clue how to do this but I’m going to have to learn on the way.’
If you want to be successful as a leader you will have to take Theodore Roosevelt’s advice and just do what’s in front of you without always knowing exactly how you are going to do it. But be encouraged, during times like this is when you find out that you are capable of doing much more than you ever thought you could.
So don’t hold back. Jump into it. Trust yourself enough so that, when you find yourself in unfamiliar territory, you find within yourself the ability to overcome anything that’s thrown at you.
