Behavioral coaching is being used in a variety of ways today. It has become extremely important for coaches to be successfully trained in behavioral coaching and be able to go to the very root of the individual problems and provide adequate and realistic solutions. Coaches work with the clients and help them overcome the problems, to increase and enhance their performance. Along with this, there is a resultant improvement in the overall quality of their physical and mental well being as well.
Behavioral coaching is now a part of coaching in all fields, like executive coaching for CEOs, female executive coaching, transformational leadership coaching, business coaching, personal coaching, coaching in the healthcare industry and in education.
Leadership development coaching for executives can either cover the all the levels within the company or can be selectively taken up for different levels of the management, covering senior managers or selected executives and staff. Coaches can be internal or external and can be assigned to work with a specific department or with individuals or groups. The type of people chosen for receiving leadership coaching would be newly hired employees, those who have recently been promoted or those in the process of being groomed for promotion. The areas for development would include the development of a strategic vision, leading executive teams, ambassadorship and interpersonal skills like communication, dealing with power and interaction with colleagues.
In business coaching, behavioral coaches concentrate on strategic planning, time management, staff relations, partnership conflicts, market development and life balance. The focus is to help medium and small enterprises to develop and increase business volumes and profitability. Business coaching covers initiating businesses, mergers and developing a business to ascend a higher level, to create better future prospects.
Behavioral coaching in transformational leadership is focused to help change the very though process and perception of the subject. It is geared to develop the clients into reflective thinkers who would reconsider assumptions related to self, organization, culture and anything for that matter that they previously took for granted. It successfully enhances their management competencies in all spheres of functioning.
There is a constant increase in the number of women as functional executives. Due to gender, they are confronted with additional challenges, some of which are external and others are related to their own perceptions. The issues involved, among others, are relationship building, being assertive, managing dissent, living up to peer and family expectations and balancing life between family and professional responsibilities.
In the expanding area of coaching in education, behavioral coaching extends to teachers, students and administrative personnel, as individuals or groups. Here, senior teachers are trained to coach other teachers and students as well. Behavioral coaches monitor the program and also work individually with students, to help them choose appropriate careers and prepare accordingly to develop their life, social and study skills.
Organizations now employ regular Coaching Program Managers as internal coaches. With a management background, together with training in various processes, tools and techniques in behavioral coaching, they assume responsibility for the introduction of coaching in the company.
